"Invalid" login in Exchange in iPhone

A couple of weeks ago, while in the mall...I suddenly got a prompt/alert on my iPhone that I can't login of some sort to my Exchange account and it's prompting me to put in my password. This is the 1st time to get this alert and even after I input my password more than a dozen times, it was still giving me that "Invalid password" in Exchange. I tried changing my password for my Google Account and it still gave me that error prompt.

After fumbling in Google for solutions (saw in a couple of support group pages that this is a common problem)...I was brought to Google Accounts page where there is this 2-step verification. What I did was, I went thru with the verification and I was given 10mins to log on to my Exchange (Google sync) account on my iPhone which I did and that SOLVED THAT PROBLEM.

One of the main arguments against Google's Android operating system is the fragmentation that is spread across hundreds of devices and various software versions. Apple has even taken shots at the OS, highlighting how within a year, almost all iPhones are running the latest system version, compared to about 7% of Android users on Ice Cream Sandwich. But with the introduction of iOS 6, which the Cupertino-based company claims will deliver more than 200 new features, Apple may finally have to deal with fragmentation as well.

While the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 will be compatible with iOS 6, both devices will get a version of the software that forgoes key features. As noted by Ars Technica, Apple's impressive 3D Flyover feature and turn-by-turn voice navigation found within its new Maps app will only work on A5-powered devices, meaning the iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the new iPad. To make matters worse, the iPhone 3GS doesn't support FaceTime and it won't be able to handle offline reading, shared Photo Streams, VIP lists or Flagged Smart mailboxes.

While the situation might not be as bad as many claim it is on Android, Apple will continue to face difficulties when attempting to keep its older hardware up-to-date.

Apple's list of feature limitations is as follows:

Apple has made a ton of announcements during the keynote to its Worldwide Developer Conference. But one of the coolest updates to its OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion operating system is the addition of AirPlay Mirroring, which will let users directly stream content from their Macs to Apple TV and other supported devices.

AirPlay Mirroring was first announced for the iPad at last year's WWDC, but now the Apple team is extending it to even more parts of its device ecosystem. By adding it to OSX, users will no longer have to hook up cables to their Macs in order to stream video or games from their laptops to the biggest screen in the house. All they need is an Apple TV connected to their HDTV.

That not only makes it easier to share presentations and the like on the big screen, it also creates more functionality for the Apple TV and provides even more reason for enthusiasts to pick up the $99 device. We expect more updates for the Apple TV to be announced soon, so until then…

Along with all of the news today at WWDC, Apple has announced a new AirPort Express router that features a complete hardware redesign. The new version looks like a white Apple TV and loses the power adapter look of its predecessor. It also now supports simultaneous dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz 802.11n Wi-Fi. The previous version worked with both frequencies, but could not support the two at the same time. Additionally, the unit now has two ethernet ports, so you're no longer forced to connect every machine over Wi-Fi, and it has the same USB 2.0 and 3.5mm headphone jack as before. The new AirPort Express costs that same as its predecessor, at $99, and is available now.

Instagram fans would definitely want the Instagram Socialmatic Camera to be a reality. Its function is quite simple, take square photos, upload it to your Instagram account, and even print it ala Polaroid but on a sticky paper.



This digital camera is beautifully modeled after the Instagram icon. What's inside is WiFi to connect to the internet, Bluetooth to possibly transfer files to other devices, 16GB of storage, a 4:3 touchscreen, 2 different lenses, LED flash, a QR code reader, and it can also be used as a webcam. At least, that's how ADR studios who created this concept camera wants it to be like.



After taking your Instagram photo and uploading it to your account, you can also print it directly from the camera. It will use a sticky sheet (like Post-its) as paper so you can stick your picture anywhere you wish to. The printout will also have a QR code and your Instagram username for easy following.



Now if only they being making this a reality for the millions of Instagram lovers in the world. It feels weird to hold when taking photos but what the heck, take my money!



UPDATE: The Instagram Socialmatic Camera can now be funded in Indiegogo, a crowdfunding site. They're estimating a retail price of under $350. Ouch. In that case, I'll hold on to my money for now.

Pavizio X1 Android 4.0 Tablet

Saw this today at Toy Kingdom and it got me interested. It's a 7 inch Ice Cream Sandwich tablet with a capacitive screen using an ARM CPU and 8GB of disk space. What made it more interesting was the price, roughly P5500 only! Heck that's cheaper than the cheapest Ainol tablet.

It's China-made (what's not nowadays anyways). And has all the ports one could think of including an HDMI out. I haven't seen the display but from the specs sheet, it says that it's just 800 x 400 pixels. Fair enough for the price. Heck as long as it's got Android Market, has WiFi, why complain?

The Playbook Scare

Last night I had a scare, when I noticed that my Blackberry Playbook wasn't charging and of course, wasn't turning on. 
Scared me that my tablet was bricked...damn waste of good hardware. I even tried to reset it and all I got was a red LED lighting up for a few seconds then off it goes. 

So I searched the interwebs and read about this kind of a problem with how RIM managed the Playbook's charging procedure. You see, the tablet needs to be on for it to charge, which means, it needs a small amount of charge in the batteries for it to charge, thus, when fully discharged, the Playbook won't charge at all. Confusing huh! Well, Blackberry has posted a "Knowledge Base" about it and it's still confusing.

Anyways, so I decided to follow a common path in dealing with the problem wherein I have to plug the Playbook to it's charger, wait for the red LED to light up, then unplug it when the LED disappears then plug it again, repeating the process for...they say around 10x, but I say, until the battery with a lightning bolt symbol appears on the screen and the LED turns into flashing yellow. By that time, you can now breathe a sigh of relief as your Playbook is now charging...which I did! Sigh-ed! Whew! 

Right now I'm not using a laptop anymore, I have 2 tablet computers and the desktop at home. For my mobile computing needs, the tablet is more than enough to satisfy it. It is then unacceptable to lose a tablet now because I use them, especially the Playbook for my lectures. Now I have to be very careful when it comes to the Playbook's battery charge.

MetroTwit

MetroTwit is a new Twitter client that is designed with the Metro UI of Windows 8 in mind. It has a minimalistic design that will fit well with Windows 8. From the twitter clients that I had used, and still using, I've chosen TweetDeck to be my default app for tweeting. Thus I will be comparing MetroTwit with TweetDeck a lot.

MetroTwit is a promising twitter client unfortunately, it insisted on being a stand-alone app, in a world where it is becoming more of a browser-centric environment. Some one using a computer, would rather have one application running and have everything he/she wants within that application. This is why, a lot of programmers and developers are focusing their efforts to web-based applications. 

TweetDeck started out with an AIR based app, but soon decided to go web-based, this way, the app itself can run on more platforms and not limited to a single one. 

After using MetroTwit for an hour and a half, I went back to using TweetDeck. Not because I like TweetDeck (I'm trying to be objective here), but because, after leaving the desktop for a short while, when I got back, the application slowed down (response). Although Google Chrome would also slow down when there are lots of extensions are installed, but once all fired up, Google Chrome or Tweetdeck for that matter will run smoothly. 

In summary, MetroTwit can have some followers, but I'm very skeptic as to how long.

My BlackBerry

If by the 29th (the date Globe will migrate my account from my old BlackBerry Max My Super Unli to the new iPhone Plan 1799 Unlisurf Combo) I cannot use my BlackBerry (BBM) on wifi, then it's really going to the shelf for my trusty QWERTY phone.

While in the mall earlier, I realized, that perhaps I will really be sticking it out with the iPhone as the primary phone on Globe and an Android smartphone on Smart until my contract expires on both. I still have a year on SUN and 2 years on Globe, which means a new phone every year from my providers (that is of course if I decide to stay, which I will perhaps because I want to hold on to my numbers).

I'm hoping that when my contract expires with Globe, a new iPhone #S is out to replace this one that I have now. And with Sun, if BlackBerry is still alive by then, and they've released new phones with BlackBerry 10  OS, with mobile hotspots feature, then I think it's the perfect time to switch back to the BlackBerry world.

3G or WiFi version on a tablet?

I'll always suggest get the WiFi version & just subscribe to an unlimited data plan on a Mobile Wireless Router (MiFi).

By doing so, you spend less on the device & data is not limited to one device. And if ever you decide to change environments (e.g. iOS to Android to BlackBerry), less hassle for you since the router is still the same.
